• HA-Beaver Dam Swimming

  Join 20+ children from Highland Addition on an outing to Beaver Dam Swimming Club in Cockeysville, MD. Beaver Dam Swimming Club covers about 30 acres. For swimming there is a large freshwater quarry (average depth 40 feet) with rafts, log rolls, diving area, and "Tarzan" swing. In addition, there are two pools (average depth four feet), volleyball courts, a basketball court, and shaded areas with grills suitable for picnics and cookouts. • Kenilworth Gardens w/ Beacon House!

  On Saturday, July 31, the Beacon House Group of Washington, D.C. Inner City Outings will visit Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens. The park is located in Maryland and is Metro-accessible from D.C. so we will be using public transportation (no cars/drivers needed). While at the Gardens we will participate in the 45-minute tour at 11:00 AM and then spend a couple of hours exploring, hiking the nature trails, and playing games with the kids. We do not yet know the exact number of children participating, but expect 10-12. We will need to leave Beacon House by 9:30 AM, so all volunteers will need to arrive at Beacon House not later than 9:00 AM. We will return before 5:00 PM. We will provide additional details about the activities for the outing a few days in advance to volunteers who sign up. • HA-Overnight Camping trip: Harpers Ferry

  Join 20-30 children from Highland Addition for an overnight camping trip near Harpers Ferry. All participants must have come on at least one previous Highland ICO outing. Rock Creek Park offers visitors fresh air, majestic trees, wild animals, and the sounds of Rock Creek. The Rock Creek Nature Center and Planetarium is located at 5200 Glover Road NW, Washington, DC 20015, near the intersection of Military Road and Glover Road.

• Calendars
  Help us raise money to support our trips with at-risk children in the DC-area. We are selling wall ($11.95) and desk ($12.95) calendars.

• Grantwriting
  We are establishing a grantwriting program to help fund our work with at-risk children. Do you know of grantors that may be interested in supporting our projects? Would you be willing to help write or review our grant? Would you be willing to establish a relationship with a grantor and help insure that our submission meets their needs? If you can help this process in any way, please sign up and let us know how you would like to be involved.

• CH-Boat Trip with Living Classrooms

  **THIS SATURDAY, JULY 10TH** **SIGN-UP BEFORE 8PM THURSDAY** Please join 15-20 children from Columbia Heights and Petworth for an Environmental Education Boat Trip on the Anacostia and Potomac Rivers. Inner City Outings is teaming up with Living Classrooms to participate in the Shipboard Program (http://livingclassroomsdc.org/shipboard_program.html) in which kids will board "The Half Shell" and participate in hands-on activities designed to be both fun and educational. New volunteers must contact Kris Unger at 703-527-2457 before the trip for a background check. For this trip, please bring CLOSED-TOE SHOES. We will provide lunch. Lastly, please remember this is a fun experience for the children and volunteers. We do ask both child and volunteer to respect themselves and each other.
