Beacon House Community Ministry, Inc. is a civic and social service organization that supports the youth and families of the Ward Five Communities in Northeast Washington, DC. A long-term, family focused program that is deeply rooted in the community, Beacon House's mission is to empower and enrich the lives of at-risk youth and families through the use of creative, multicultural partnerships. Through mentoring and other youth development activities, Beacon House Programs strive to reduce delinquency, decrease the school dropout rate, and improve the academic achievement of students in its target area. Our Program focus areas: Mentoring -- Fostering long-term friendships that sustain and enhance the lives of youth. Capacity Building and Outreach -- Providing organizational assistance of issues that affect the Edgewood Terrace community and its residents. Building and linking relationships on individual and organizational levels, which will enhance the community's capacity to meet its needs. Enrichment -- Exposure to cultural and educational alternatives and prevention programs that foster growth and development. Recreation -- Building self-esteem, positive attitudes, teamwork, and integrity in youth through recreational activities such as camps, team sports, and field trips. Education -- Providing ongoing academic support for children through daycare, tutoring, and interaction with parents, schools, and universities.
